I live in the Netherlands all my life. I am a technology executive, working for 30 years for American software companies. I am married to Eline and together, we have 4 kids.

I like to go out and have a cold beer on a terras with friends and family, love to play golf (hcp 26), fish at places like the beautiful river the Linge and playing jeu-de-boules.

WHY THIS BLOG?

A decade ago, I sterted to blog about places I (we) visited. This is a new site, replacing my old blog.

​

Many times, you want to go somewhere, but where to go and where to stay? You find a place on the internet that looks great but when you are there, it is not what was advertised or what you expected .

​

On the other hand, there are many places people don’t know about but they are amazing. THe main reason for this is ranking on specific sites or simply because they do not have the budget to appear on a broader scale on the internet. That’s why I started to write up places I stayed or played over the last 30 years traveling all over the world.

THE PICTURES

Although we took most pictures ourselves, sometimes I went to the internet and more or better pictures. Also, from some older visits, I've updated some of the pictures as well.

RATING

I rated the places independent if a hotel might have 3, 4 or 5 stars, a restaurant having a Michelin star or not. For every golf course, hotel, B&B, restaurant or bar, I gave it my own personal rating from 1* to 5* (best). The personal touch and service is always a key element in my ratings. I also considered the price/performance as a key indicator for my rating.

CITY TRIPS

Last but not least, I also started to include city trips, varying from San Francisco, a nostalgic train trip in Switzerland to L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Mougins in France.

ILLNESS

In June 2024, I waas diagnosed with lymfe cancer. I've been in the hopital for some 4-5 months out of 7 now and have one more treatment to go in January. That shouold finish the original plan. What the future will bring I do not know but I hope to write many more stories about all the nice places I (we) visited or will visit in the future. One advise here.... if you have something in mind, do it and do not wait!
