A total of 14 founding members established the “Golf and Country Club Achensee” on May 4, 1934, and on June 18, 1934, the course was officially opened with 9 holes. Thus, it is the oldest golf club in Tyrol and also one of the first clubs in Austria. Since its renovation in 1995 and expansion in 2003, the golfer has had access to 18 holes, and in 2015, the fully covered driving range with a spacious practice area was newly opened. Another highlight was being voted the best golf club in Austria in 2010. In 2013, the GLC Achensee was also included in the prestigious group of “Leading Golf Courses.”
We ended up here because the course was next to the hotel we stayed, on a summer trip playing various courses in Tyrol. Our game at the Achensee club was not so great as it started to rain after a few holes. At the t-box, to our surprise, we play with two Dutch country fellowes and found out we had various people from the Hamberg family. Peter from, a former reseller of mine, was known to the owner of Landgoed Bergvliet, a great golf course in the southern part of Holland,
In the end, we only played 9 holes because the weather was terrible and very wet. We did end up for a few bottles of wine and some bites at the club bar where we experienced great service.
