Restaurant De Oude Betuwe is located in an old house in the village of Tricht, close to the beautiful river “de Linge”. It is a small boutique restaurant with a family style atmosphere.

During our visit, we had a 3-course meal. The restaurant offer various menu options and has a good looking menu. The starter was a carpaccio. The plate was simple with a little salad, a truffel mayonnaise dressing and of course the meat. The taste was very good and the dish a good byte to it. As a main course, I had beef (on the menu as a combination with salmon) with pepper sauce salad and delicious home made fries.

As a pata negra (Jamon Iberico) fan, I saw they also had a very nice looking dish with pata negra on the menu. When I asked the waiter if this was always on the menu, he was very attend and brought me a small plate to taste. It was very nice, but as I said to the chef, you really taste it when you cut the meat by hand instead of using a machine. By doing that, the meat will taste better and you’ll keep the Spanish population happy.

My wife had the duck with nougatine and Madeira sauce. Both dishes were a nice experience and a combination of quality and taste. I would however recommend the chef to be a bit more careful with the sauces and present these on the dish in a more elegant way. Providing a little bow for extra sauce might be a good idea. We both had strawberries Romanoff as desert. An nice combination of fresh strawberries with vodka and black pepper.

All together a very nice restaurant and we will be back soon to taste your calf meat stew with pata negra, marinated olives and truffle vinaigrette.
