Built overlooking the sea on the Italian Riviera in a natural, green setting, Hotel Restaurant Claudio is an great place to stay for a few days when visiting the Italian Riviera. The scenic park setting of the complex, which was designed to blend into the landscape, make this an enchanting, charming spot. We were there in 2015.
The view of the Mediterranean is superb and often, you can enjoy the pool all by yourself or with limited company. Claudio has as I said a great view and the room are (almost all) private. Most divided with curtains, but all with that great view of the blue Med.
If you want to walk down the beach, be aware. It is steep and down if fine but up isn’t any easy one. That said, the location does provide a unique view and that is worth a lot. So if you decide to stay at the Claudio, take your car when you go to the sea.
Hotel
The Hotel is situated right on the edge of the sea with an open view of the gulf and the characteristic island. All rooms have a terrace, sea view, and are equipped with every comfort: lift, air conditioning, TV, minibar, and some rooms have a whirlpool bath or a shower with hydromassage.
Restaurant
Claudio was a Michelin star restaurant. At least till the beginning of this decade.
A gastronomical experience of Mr. Claudio Pasquarelli, the owner and chef, make the cuisine the final touch of excellence: mainly specialized in sea-food dishes, carefully prepared with fresh fish, which have let the restaurant being cited in the most important good food guides. In Summer the restaurant has a splendid, panoramic terrace. A few years ago, Claudio decided (a very difficult choice according to the letter he wrote on the website) the restaurant would only be available to hotel guests and therefor provide an even better quality pampering the guests.
In the end yes it was nice but my main course (meat) was below Michelin level. That said, the price of the average wine on the list was (from a price point) below Michelin star. A great choice of excellent wines with most bottles in the €30-€50 range.
That said, I like to go back but for the hotel and the restaurant. If you are a fish eater, try it out! Claudio’s hotel staff is very nice and helpful. A room for a week sets you down between €1.000 and €1.500 for a week.
Private beach
Claudio has a private beach along the Bergeggi waterfront, with different daily costs: €30 per day on weekdays and €40 per day on Saturdays and Sundays, or with weekly rates. It is reachable in 10/15 minutes on foot through a path in the greenery of the Mediterranean scrub or by private means. During peak season, there is also a municipal shuttle service available for a fee.
The service is exclusively reserved for hotel guests and requires prior reservation, subject to availability of spaces. Now as for the stars, I gave it a 4-star for the restaurant given the experience and 4-star for the hotel. We stayed there for a few days and felt a true guest. Thanks!
