Hotel prices are more expensive in the United Kingdom than on mainland Europe. At least that is the case for most situations if you compare on equal base. The Hotel du Vin in Winchester, depending where you book and the period, will cost you between 175 and 400 pound per night. This is not a cheap. Try to book a Marriott, Holiday Inn or Sheraton for less. Even if you can find these common business hotel for such a price, the service level and room quality don’t come close. What a difference!

The hotel is very good and comes with great memories. I liked the setting very much: the hotel is housed in the fine architecture of a beautiful centrally located Winchester Georgian building, dating back to 1715. The hotel is located almost in the center of Winchester and a great place to stay, conveniently close to places like Basingstoke, Southampton or Plymouth. Winchester is located along the M3 (the main motorway going south from London Heathrow Airport). Reservations should be made in time given this hotel has only 24 rooms. This already says it all. People know you! You are not a number but a real guest. The hotel is one of those places with unforgettable memories.

The bar offers a great choice of all type of local and international drinks and there is a great wine list. The food in the restaurant was first class and the room…? It did not even have a number. All the rooms in the Hotel du Vin have names. Furthermore a B&O sound system, flat TV with all main channels, a shower you want at home and a bed that makes you dream before you sleep.
