Malmaison Oxford *****

I’ve been a few times in my life in prison. I was even in a cell. One of the times was in Orange County (US). I was was their with the Dutch Ministry of Justice and the Dutch Crime Institute, the CRI for a fingerprint system benchmark. The other time was in Oxford, the location of the Malmaison Hotel, the former Oxford Castle (11th century) that was later on turned into a prison.
It is very strange to stay there, in a good way. A lot of the history of the prison was kept and you actually sleep in a cell. They made very nice rooms from 2 cells at the time.
The hotel has many advantages, good food, a nice bar but in my opinion the location itself is the highlight: right in the hart of the center of Oxford. Perfect to visit the city. Another advantage is that you can valet park at the hotel as well. The historic covered market is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
The hotel personnel is very friendly and always there to help you. The experience already starts when you enter the lobby to register.
