Radisson Blue ****
Sometimes you are so lucky that you find a place with a real unique feature. The Radisson Blue in Berlin is such a hotel in my opinion. The Radisson surprises you with the largest (at least I know of) aquarium in the world, located in a hotel.
It is truly amazing. Take a seat at the bar under the aquarium and look up. You will be amazed but, and of course without any reason, but I was a bit scared as well. What if there would be a crack and the water would come down…… It is a must see whenever in Berlin.
The hotel itself is of good quality with the Brandenburger gate next door. The top floor has some great places for a conference meeting or drink. Berlin by night can’t get much better.
UPDATE, the aquarium burst
In December 2022, the giant aquarium containing a million litres of water in the lobby of the Radisson Blu in Berlin bursted, flooding the hotel and nearby streets. The "AquaDom" - home to 1500 fish - is 15.85m high and was described as the largest free-standing cylindrical aquarium in the world. Two people were injured by falling glass after the blast.
During the accident around 1,500 exotic fish, 1 million litres of water and hundreds of debris fragments were spilled into the lobby of the Radisson Blu hotel in the German capital.
“Even without knowing the causes of the AquaDom bursting, we are ruling out a new large aquarium for the location,” Fabian Hellbusch, spokesman for the building’s owner, told dpa, saying the cost was prohibitively high. He said the tank had been a “visitor magnet.”
